Play the public-access course that once hosted the game's biggest stages.

Before it was Falconhead, this land was Turner's Lodge—a bold course in Burneyville that convinced the PGA and LPGA Tours to stop in a town most people couldn't find on a map. Legends walked these fairways, and in 1964, Pete Brown made history here as the first African-American golfer to win an official PGA Tour event.

Today, that same ground is home to Falconhead's 18-hole, par-72 championship course—6,488 yards of Robert Trent Jones Sr. design, with smart doglegs, guarded greens, and just enough bite in the wind to keep you honest. It's demanding enough for serious players, but welcoming enough to be your everyday home course.

You're not just booking a round; you're stepping into a piece of golf history that still plays fast, firm, and very much alive.

"The Handshake"

"The Handshake"

Image of

Hole 1 – Par 4

Straightforward, my eye. Looks innocent enough—water left, OB right—but that front bunker eats delicate sensibilities for lunch. Wanna know who’s got the nerve? First tee’ll tell you quick.
2

"The Elevator"

"The Elevator"

Image of

Hole 2 – Par 5

Both sides out of bounds, so keep it between the fence posts—just like life. Green sits up high, bunkered left, daring you to go for it in two. Most folks don’t got the guts.
3

"The Exam"

"The Exam"

Image of

Hole 3 – Par 4 (Handicap #1)

This is where we find out if you can play. OB tight right, slim green swallowed by one big bunker front. Par here means you got something to brag about.
4

"The Gatekeeper"

"The Gatekeeper"

Image of

Hole 4 – Par 4

Short but don’t get greedy—demanding tee shot with trouble both sides. Two big bunkers guard the green like they’re protecting oil leases. Jack Nicklaus learned here in ’62 that “short” don’t mean “easy.”
5

"The Cliff"

"The Cliff"

Image of

Hole 5 – Par 3

All carry over water to a skinny green that's bunkered front and back. Bill Jelliffe made 19 on a hole at one of Waco's tournaments—so don't feel bad about the duck hook.
6

"The Tease"

"The Tease"

Image of

Hole 6 – Par 4

Short par four, OB left, but that front bunker’s a liar. Green’s got more waves than Lake Turner on a windy day. Looks scorable till you’re putting for 5.
7

"The Breather"

"The Breather"

Image of

Hole 7 – Par 4

First hole without out-of-bounds—see, we're not all mean. But those right-side bunkers and that elevated green still ask questions. You gonna answer?
8

"The Dogleg"

"The Dogleg"

Image of

Hole 8 – Par 5

Bends right, water right, trees and OB left. Demanding ain’t the word—this one’s a negotiation. Elevated green’ll leave you breathless or cussing.
9

"The Plunge"

"The Plunge"

Image of

Hole 9 – Par 3

All carry over water to a green that slopes hard left-to-right, bunkers waiting on the right like vultures. Dutch Harrison said this place would be one of the toughest in the nation. He wasn’t lying.
10

"The Hook"

"The Hook"

Image of

Hole 10 – Par 4

Dogleg left with trouble both sides—welcome to Oklahoma. Green’s got a front bunker and water right, which means you better hit the fairway or start fishing.
11

"The Climb"

"The Climb"

Hole 11 – Par 5

Hooks left, OB right, trees left. Green sits two-tiered with a bunker on the right—makes you think strategy instead of just grip-and-rip. That’s the point.
12

"The Blind"

"The Blind"

Hole 12 – Par 4

Straightaway but you can’t see the landing from the tee—trust me, it’s there. OB right, and the green’s got bunkers left and right plus three tiers to test your humility.
13

"The Looker"

"The Looker"

Hole 13 – Par 3

Mid-range beauty, OB left, big green with a bunker right. Gives you a chance to catch your breath—if you don’t think too hard about the wind.
14

"The Gauntlet"

"The Gauntlet"

Hole 14 – Par 5

Straight, but you better be accurate—OB both sides. Two-tier green surrounded by water and a bunker like a moat. This one separates the men from the boys, the oil from the dirt.
15

"The Hill"

"The Hill"

Hole 15 – Par 4

Uphill short par four, OB right, with a green so severely two-tiered you’ll need a map. Approach shot better be right, or you’ll be putting like you’re on a seesaw.
16

"The Monster"

"The Monster"

Hole 16 – Par 3

Long one, OB right. Biggest green on the course, which sounds generous till you see the undulation going every which direction—bunkers both sides waiting for the timid. Pete Brown nearly lost his win here in ’64. You’ll see why.
17

"The Lake"

"The Lake"

Hole 17 – Par 4

Dogleg left down Lake Turner, water left, OB right. Beauty and beast combined. Green’s two-tiered and sloped so severe you’ll think I designed it after a roller coaster.
18

"The Stage"

"The Stage"

Hole 18 – Par 4

Short finisher, OB right, but that two-tiered green with the front bunker? That’s where Pete Brown sank a two-and-a-half footer to become the first Black man to win on the PGA Tour. History lives in that grass. Your putt’s just borrowing the stage.

Falconhead Resort & Country Club logo with stylized falcon design and establishment year 1958 on black background

Falconhead isn't just a golf course. It's the last stand of golf's eternal underdog. Built by a teacher who got rich by smelling oil, rejected by the establishment, funded with potato sacks of cash, and still thriving because the spirit of generosity beats pretension every time. The Turners built it for the 'Poor Boys.' Now it's open to us all.
